There are days when it is just overwhelming to think about all the wrongs being done and the incredible pain being inflicted in our world — wars, murders, shootings, rapes, suicides, cruelties, floods, droughts, pollution, disease, poverty, homelessness, hunger, lies, corruption, theft …
How does one look in to the cavernous depths of so many dark realities and not be swallowed up? How does one listen with compassion to so much heart wrenching pain and not drown? How can we create the life and the world we want to live in, in the face of so much hate and fear?
A few years back, I came across a song on Coyote Prime’s Running ‘Cause I can’t Fly blog that said what I very much believed but was somehow afraid to give voice to:
We can’t give up.
Better is always possible.
We need to believe in ourselves and each other and our ability to change the world.
We have to try even while we cry.
We must keep making now the life we want to live and the world we want to live in.
The music and lyrics of Michael Franti’s “Hey World (Don’t Give Up)” is powerful, sad, uplifting and beautiful. I listen to this when ever I need to believe again. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me. Thanks for sharing CP.
Tell me why there's child soldiers Tell me why they closed the borders Tell me how to fight disease and Tell me now, won't you please? The only thing I want to do is to be in the arms Of someone who believes in me, like I believe in you -- Don't give up on me, I won't give up And I try, I try, I try, I try, I try, I try, I try, I try for you Don't give up on me And I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry for you Just believe in me like I believe
A better world is possible.

It is so easy to become discouraged and depressed by what we see the human race doing to the world. Thanks for the positive thoughts and the reminder that, if we care, a better world is possible.

You so well articulated in this post what I truly believe and that is optimism for the future. If we didn’t cry and try to change things, then we accept and that is not the way to make things better. So I too am crying, but now a better world is right around the corner. I believe!! Thank you for the optimism this morning!

I imagine as a nurse the belief in being able to change things and make them better is almost a core requirement. Thanks for all you do for women and girls.
